About gastroenterology & hepatology

Gastroenterology and hepatology cover the gut, the liver and the pancreas: acid and functional disorders in the clinic, fatty and alcoholic liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and procedures such as endoscopy and colonoscopy that are booked, prepared for and reported.

What makes this specialty hard to run

The operational problems a system has to answer, before any feature list.

  1. 01

Endoscopy and colonoscopy are booked procedures with preparation instructions, not ordinary consultations.

  2. 02

A procedure produces a report that the referring doctor and the patient both need.

  3. 03

Biopsy results arrive days later and must return to the right patient and visit.

  4. 04

Liver and bowel conditions need long-term follow-up with regular blood tests.

How Nirogix supports gastroenterology & hepatology

Grouped the way the day runs. Every line says whether it is in the product today or planned.

Available todayPlanned, not available yet

Clinical pathways are reference content your clinical team reviews and edits as its own; nothing is ordered or prescribed until a doctor chooses it. Calculators inform a decision and do not write to the record. A line that needs a particular module names it.

The GI consultation

  • Ten gastroenterology pathways ready on day one: GERD, gastritis, peptic ulcer, H. pylori, IBS, fatty liver, alcoholic liver disease, ulcerative colitis and more
  • An abdomen line in the systemic examination, and icterus and edema as structured signs
  • Diagnoses coded from common GI and liver ICD-10-CM codes
  • With the Gastroenterology module, a structured GI and liver consultation, an inflammatory bowel disease profile, and West Haven grading at each liver review

Liver scores

  • MELD and MELD-Na, Child-Pugh and PT to INR in the consultation, for clinicians
  • With the Gastroenterology module, MELD and Child-Pugh stored on the record with their inputs, computed by the server
  • MELD and Child-Pugh filled from the latest results, with FIB-4 and APRI(planned)
  • Glasgow-Blatchford and Rockall scores for a GI bleed(planned)

Procedures and investigations

  • Endoscopy and colonoscopy booked on the doctor’s calendar beside consultations, and priced from your services catalog on the same invoice
  • Liver and other panels ordered in the consultation, with flagged results beside the order
  • Abdominal ultrasound and CT ordered with the Radiology module, with the signed report returned
  • An ascitic tap recorded as a bedside procedure, with its consent printed for signature (Clinical Support)
  • With the Gastroenterology module, endoscopy and colonoscopy reports with findings by segment and any therapy given, printed on your letterhead
  • Images in the endoscopy report, and biopsy tracking to histopathology(planned)

Follow-up

  • Every earlier result kept on the record in date order, and a treatment case for each condition’s course
  • Follow-up dates in one press, and reminders by SMS or WhatsApp through your own accounts
  • Liver function trends, and preparation instructions sent before a procedure(planned)

Admission

  • Admission for a bleed or a decompensation, with signed rounds, the Rx sheet and a printed discharge summary
  • Blood units crossmatched and issued by the Blood Bank, with the transfusion recorded
  • A therapeutic diet for the admitted patient, with the Diet & Nutrition module

What changes for the practice

Procedures and clinics on one calendar

Endoscopy lists sit beside consultations, so the day is planned in one place.

Liver scores without a spreadsheet

MELD and Child-Pugh open inside the consultation, filled from the chart where they can be.

Results that stay together

Every liver panel stays on the record in date order, tied to the course of treatment.

Procedure billing at the counter

Each procedure is priced from your catalog and lands on the visit’s invoice.

The modules a practice like this turns on

Modules are entitlements: enable what you need now and add the rest when you are ready. Nothing is re-implemented per specialty.

What gets configured for you

Procedures and their prices in the services catalogProvider slots for procedure sessionsInvestigation catalog for liver and other panels

Most specialties differ in configuration rather than code: the same modules are enabled and set up differently. Where a specialty has a module of its own (twenty-three today, from Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Dentistry to Cardiology, Oncology and Nephrology), it is switched on per hospital. Where a specialty needs a capability the platform does not have yet, we say so during the demo rather than after you buy.

Questions we are asked

Can we write endoscopy reports in Nirogix?

Yes, with the Gastroenterology module: a structured report with findings by segment, therapy and biopsy sites, printed on your letterhead, and billed from your services catalog. Images are not part of the report; attach them to the patient’s documents.

Are MELD and Child-Pugh included?

Yes, as calculators in the consultation for clinicians. With the Gastroenterology module they are also stored on the record with their inputs.

Can patients receive preparation instructions?

Appointment confirmations and reminders are sent through your own accounts; preparation instructions by message are planned.

Is there a gastroenterology module?

Yes, switched on per hospital: the GI and liver consultation, endoscopy reports, liver disease reviews with stored MELD and Child-Pugh, and a due list. Its forms are being reviewed by a gastroenterologist before customer use. Biopsy tracking and endoscopy suite scheduling are planned.
